What is data replication? – Syneto Vocabulary
In our Syneto Vocabulary, we have included many words that deal with data protection and data recovery. But how is data protection achieved? Data replication is one of the mechanisms that can help you achieve reliable data protection and fast recovery. In this article, we try to answer the following question: what is data replication?
What is data replication?
Data replication is the process of copying data from one location to another in order to have one or multiple up-to-date copies of the data. Data replication is often used for Disaster Recovery (DR) purposes, but also for operational recovery.
In both these scenarios, the replicated data essentially serves as backups that are used in order to achieve data protection. The backups (replicated data) also serve for recovery purposes in the case of a negative event or downtime incident.
When used for Disaster Recovery, data replication often involves the copying of data to a secondary location or infrastructure unit. This way, the backups are safe and easy to recover in case the main data suffers corruption or loss.
How Syneto does it
Syneto’s products achieve data protection by using data replication – more specifically, snapshot replication. The creation of instant automatic backups (snapshots), a feature that is available for all the data on the IT infrastructure, allows the user to achieve complete data protection and instant recovery.
