What is operational recovery? – Syneto Vocabulary
Recovering data in case of negative events or disasters is an important IT operation for any business. This recovery operation can take the form of either Disaster Recovery or Operational Recovery. We have talked about Disaster Recovery before, but we also want to clarify another concept: what is operational recovery?
What is operational recovery?
Operational recovery is the recovery of specific parts of the IT infrastructure in the case of an IT failure or a relatively small incident. The recovered data can have various forms: a file, an email message, a database entry, an entire VM or a part of a VM.
While Disaster Recovery deals with the recovery of the infrastructure in case of an IT “crisis” (a disaster, or a high-impact negative event), Operational Recovery deals with to more “routine” failures – e.g. damaged data, accidental deletions or errors.
Operational recovery involves recovering data either from local snapshots (with the help of a product that allows this type of technology), or switching to alternate equipment, like a DR unit. The latter can be a good choice when data is completely inaccessible due to a hardware failure or when there isn’t enough data retention on the primary unit.
Syneto’s approach to operational recovery
Syneto’s HYPERSeries has been designed to provide complete data protection, with instant automatic backups and built-in DR capabilities. SynetoOS has been designed to ensure the fast recovery of data. Recovering this data is easier with file-level restore, which makes it possible to easily restore any file from within a VM.
