The digital safefor your VMware infrastructure.
Echo is the Syneto software module that creates hyperconverged secondary storage alongside your primary VMware infrastructure: it captures VMs and data continuously, protects them in immutable format and — if the primary goes down — restarts workloads in minutes.
What the Echo module is
Echo is not a dedicated appliance or a traditional backup software. It is a Syneto software license that, once activated, turns a compatible platform into a digital vault for VMware: hyperconverged secondary storage that can also run workloads.
At feature software
It "switches on" as a license on Syneto HYPER Core or HYPER Edge appliances, or — in software-only mode — on third-party hardware. Same module, three consumption models.
Digital safe
It is hyperconverged secondary storage-a system parallel to the primary, dedicated to guarding VMs and data immutably, isolated from the network and immune to ransomware attacks.
At
Thanks to the built-in ESXi hypervisor, in the event of an outage or disaster, VMs can restart directly on the Echo vault, restoring operations with native Syneto RPO and RTO.
Echo is the active second copy of your VMware infrastructure: not just a backup, but a parallel hyperconverged storage capable of safeguarding data and — when needed — taking the primary's place to restart workloads.
How Echo works
From module activation to workload restoration-a linear four-step path with no secondary site or dedicated DR infrastructure.

How to activate the license
On a Syneto HyperSeries appliance (Core or Edge), or software-only on certified third-party hardware.
Link to
Once installed on the customer's network, Echo connects via Ethernet to the primary server's hypervisor VMware ESXi.
Capture and storage
Echo It initiates the ingestion of VMs and applications and stores them on Syneto storage in an immutable format.
Instant on-site play
If the primary site goes down, VMs restart directly on the Echo appliance, with native Syneto RPO and RTO.
Three ways to bring Echo into your datacenter
Same software module, three consumption options. The choice depends on company hardware strategy — nothing changes in terms of features, security or primary requirements.
HYPER Core + Echo
1U/2U rack-mounted appliance designed for central data centers. Syneto-certified hardware, pre-installed SynetoOS, and activated Echo module. The fastest and most supported way to achieve digital security.
HYPER Edge + Echo
Compact form factor for remote and branch offices. Brings digital safe and disaster recovery capability even where there is no datacenter, with no server room requirements.
SynetoOS + Echo
For those who prefer using on-hand or market-standard hardware: SynetoOS and the Echo module install on compatible third-party servers. Same features, same behavior.
Features, protection levels, RPO/RTO and primary requirements are identical. Only the hardware consumption model changes.
Primary infrastructure requirements
Echo is designed to sit alongside an existing primary infrastructure. To work properly — in any deployment mode — it requires two specific conditions on the primary.
Third-party primary
Echo does not replace primary production infrastructure: it sits next to it. The classic two-tier model has production on third-party hardware (HPE, Dell, Lenovo, Cisco, etc.) and secondary data on the Syneto + Echo platform.
VMware-only hypervisor
The primary hypervisor must be exclusively VMware ESXi. This is the technical condition that lets Echo talk natively with the primary, snapshot VMs and create coherent Recovery Points.
If the customer does not use VMware as a hypervisor, or if they are looking for an "all-in-one" solution that also includes the execution of production workloads, the right choice is a HYPER Core or HYPER Edge platform in a standard configuration, where the Hyperion hypervisor natively manages the primary infrastructure.
What happens if the primary goes down?
Hardware lock-up, ransomware attack, human error, physical disaster. When the primary is no longer operational, Echo steps in as an execution platform, not just storage.
The primary goes down
A ransomware attack, a hardware failure or a physical disaster halts the primary VMware infrastructure. Production workloads are down, the business can't operate.
Play on the digital safe
VMs are restarted directly on the platform with the Echo module, from the latest immutable Recovery Point. The business resumes work in minutes, recovering a point in time before the event.
From vCenter to the Echo vault, in real time
Your VMs live in the VMware primary. Their immutable copies live in the Syneto Echo bunker — air-gapped, WORM, always incremental.

The three dimensions of the digital safe
The Echo Data Management methodology articulates the solution's value on three technology axes, each made possible by native SynetoOS features.
Data Oversight
Unified and simplified management of all data management services, from a single point of control.
Data Resiliency
Maximum security based on the Zero Trust concept. Native immunity to ransomware.
Data Restore
Instant, predictable and simple recovery. The safe becomes an execution platform.
SynetoOS, cloud-native operating system
Echo runs on top of SynetoOS — an enterprise operating system designed for hyperconverged deployments — that natively brings MFA, end-to-end encryption, inline compression and container isolation.
Multi-Site Replication: Built In
Replicate VMs to multiple sites with delta-only transfers after the initial baseline. Every DR target stays boot-ready — failover takes seconds, not hours.
A comparison that speaks for itself
From architectural complexity to TCO, every critical dimension of data management shows the advantage of a unified hyperconverged approach.
| Aspect | Traditional solution | Echo Software Module |
|---|---|---|
| Architecture | Separate components (NAS, backup software, disaster recovery server) | Platform iperconvergente single, all-in -one |
| Attachment surface | Ampia: network-accessible storage and backup | Ridotta: Hidden Storage with Logical Air Gap |
| Recovery Point | Dependent incrementals; require consolidation | Immutable and independent; no rebuild required |
| VM recovery time | From minutes to hours, unpredictable | Less than a minute, predictable and consistent |
| Disaster Recovery | Requires infrastructure external with hypervisor | Hypervisor ESXi integrated: DR turnkey |
| Management | Multiple consoles, multiple skills, manual backups | Single interface, automatic SLA policies with ML |
| Test & Dev | Dedicated resources and provisioning times | Zero-Copy Instant Cloning without storage consumption |
| TCO | High: multiple licenses, heterogeneous hardware | Reduced: one platform, one license |
Four reasons to choose Echo
Reduced IT complexity
One platform replaces NAS, backup software, DR storage and separate controllers. The IT team is freed from repetitive low-value work.
Guaranteed business continuity
Predictable, certain recovery times. The integrated hypervisor lets you restart VMs directly on the Echo appliance, restoring full operations in the time it takes for a coffee break.
Native ransomware immunity
Data immutability, hidden storage and Zero Trust architecture make Recovery Points unassailable. Even if the network is compromised, the data remains intact and recoverable.
