A storage device is a hardware device used for storing and accessing digital information. Storage devices can be categorized in various ways, but when it comes to their use, they are usually put into one of these two categories: primary storage and secondary storage. What is primary storage?<\/h1>\n

Primary storage is represented by the technologies used to capture and store digital information that is in active use. This collected data, also known as primary data, is frequently accessed by applications, hardware systems and end-users.<\/p>\n

Primary storage usually consists of SAN or NAS storage. However, the distinction between primary and secondary storage is not made based on the storage architecture, but on the way the storage is used. This kind of storage usually runs critical applications and frequently-accessed files, but also virtualization software, management and monitoring software etc.\n<\/p>\n
