HA Synchronization Tasks
The HA system will synchronize the folowing things between machines:
- configuration: the latest configuration will be synchronized between the two machines as soon as the administrator saves the configuration for startup. Note that the configuration will not be synchronized after a simple configuration apply.
- antivirus definitions: are automatically synchronized from Primary to Backup if auto-update of virus definitions is activated
- spam definitions: are automatically synchronized from Primary to Backup if auto-update of spam definitions is activated
- system updates: when upgrading one system in HA, the peer will download the system updates from the upgraded machine
Changing HA Synchronization Interface
The HA system is configured to use the fourth interface (i.e. eth3) as the heartbeat/synchronization port. Some administrators may need to use a different port – most likely when they need to activate HA on a machine that already uses the eth3 port for different purpose.
Changing the synchronization interface requires (re)starting the HA specifying the interface. This will require a full machine restart that will be done automatically. The restart is only required if the current HA interface changes – for example a restart is not required if the ha is stopped and then started without changing the synchronization interface.
$ config ha start eth6
INFO: Setting ha interface to: eth6. This will reboot the system.
