Fondital Group — Up to 50% faster data access while protecting existing storage.

A €800M Italian industrial group accelerated its 3D engineering workflow, virtualised its infrastructure for true disaster recovery and lowered TCO — without throwing away its earlier storage investment.

Background02
Chapter 01 · Background

A vast industrial group held back by legacy storage.

Fondital began in 1970 when Silvestro Niboli — who had emigrated to Switzerland and returned to Italy to fulfil his entrepreneurial dream — founded a company producing his own brand of aluminium radiators. More than four decades later, still under his guidance, Fondital has grown into a vast international group spanning industrial and domestic heating, aluminium fusion, water conveyance and discharge, and galvano/thermoplastics.

The group is made up of over thirteen companies — including Raffmetal (a metal/alloy mill), Valsir (waste systems), Nova Florida (aluminium radiators), Oliveira/Irmão (flushing cisterns), ValRom (polyethylene pipes), Marvon (fire doors and windows) and Sinkon (polypropylene pipes), among others. Across these brands Fondital employs more than 2,500 people in over seven countries. That scale meant the storage underpinning its design and production data could no longer be a bottleneck.

Weak legacy performance

Older storage was delivering weak performance, slowing day-to-day access to project data.

Slow 3D file workflow

Heavy 3D project files were dispersed and slow to open, hampering the engineering teams.

Protect prior investment

Any new platform had to preserve the value of the storage Fondital had already purchased.

No virtualised infrastructure

Physical servers left the group without a path to true disaster recovery or lower TCO.

Chapter 02 · The Syneto approach

Syneto Storage: faster, unified and investment-safe.

Fondital chose Syneto Storage, delivered by partner ANTEDATA. The design tackled each pain point at once: accelerate data access, consolidate the scattered 3D projects, fold the existing storage into the new platform rather than discarding it, and finally virtualise the physical servers to unlock disaster recovery and a lower total cost of ownership.

SSD cache acceleration

The SSD cache feature improves data access speed by as much as 50%, removing the legacy bottleneck.

Unified 3D projects

Dispersed 3D projects were unified on Syneto Storage, giving engineering teams a single fast source.

Existing storage integrated

The existing storage system was integrated through the Storage OS, raising its performance while protecting the original investment.

Virtualisation for DR

Physical servers were virtualised to achieve true disaster recovery and lower the overall TCO.

Investment protection by design

Rather than replacing the storage Fondital had already paid for, Syneto Storage OS absorbed it into the new platform — so the older array kept contributing capacity and performance instead of becoming stranded cost.

Faster access, true DR and a lower TCO.

The outcome matched the brief on every count: data access accelerated by as much as 50%, the scattered 3D projects unified on one fast platform, the earlier storage purchase fully preserved, and the physical estate virtualised for true disaster recovery at a lower total cost of ownership.

Their philosophy of smart investments and savvy business practices made Syneto an ideal partner.Fondital Group case study

For a group that has always favoured smart investments and savvy business practices, the result was the best of both worlds: a faster, virtualised and disaster-recovery-ready platform that still honoured the hardware Fondital had already bought — a fit that made Syneto an ideal partner.
