Background02
Chapter 01 · Background

Customer profile & the challenge.

The customer is a County Government in the state of Maryland, USA. As a public institution, it handles a large amount of sensitive data, and the integrity of that data is essential for the well-functioning of the county administration.

The County Government had recently lost important government data due to the failure of its previous infrastructure, a VMware vSAN solution. After the product failed, the previous vendor's support did not help promptly, and the data was irretrievably lost. The Deputy Director of Information Technology needed a reliable solution to replace the old infrastructure while delivering complete data protection and Disaster Recovery capabilities.

The integrity of sensitive government data is essential to county operations — the new platform had to guarantee end-to-end data integrity.

Improve Disaster Recovery

The previous vendor's support failed during the outage and data was lost irretrievably. The county needed dependable, integrated DR.

Reduce management time

The team did not want to invest a lot of time in infrastructure management, so the solution had to be easy to deploy and operate.

Chapter 02 · The Syneto approach

The objective & the solution.

The IT department's primary objective was an infrastructure that could ensure the protection of government data, plus fast recovery in case of an incident. Because the team did not want to invest a lot of time in infrastructure management, they sought a solution that was easy to deploy and manage.

The Maryland County Government deployed two Syneto ULTRASeries with an added all-flash JBOD and built-in Disaster Recovery capabilities. The solution provides business continuity, ensuring all data is constantly and consistently accessible as well as backed up. Deployment went smoothly, and management of the infrastructure now requires very little to no time.

Two primary units replaced the old infrastructure, consolidating applications and file storage on a single resilient platform.

All-flash JBOD

An added all-flash JBOD expands fast, consistent storage for VM access and file sharing across the county's users.

Built-in Disaster Recovery

Native DR keeps all data safely backed up, so the whole infrastructure can recover after a downtime incident — no separate backup product needed.

Effortless operations

Ease of use was a top concern. After implementation, the team has had to touch the solution essentially never, freeing IT for higher-value work.

Results.

The two Syneto ULTRASeries enabled the county to replace the failed legacy infrastructure with ease — consolidating applications and file storage, cutting backup costs to zero, and shrinking recovery from a total data loss to as little as 15 minutes.

15-minute recovery

Should a downtime incident occur, all data is safely backed up and the whole infrastructure can recover in as little as 15 minutes — a stark contrast to the irretrievable loss the county suffered on its previous vSAN platform.

After 15 years in the industry, Syneto is by far the easiest solution to configure and implement. Unlike the vSAN product, I haven't had to touch the Syneto solution once after implementation.Deputy Director of IT, Maryland-based County Government
