Cabra Engineering deployed two Syneto ULTRA Series hybrid storage arrays to expand capacity, accelerate CAD work, virtualise its servers and achieve true disaster recovery.
Cabra Engineering is an industrial design and technical consultancy that takes an innovative approach to developing industrial products and equipment, working on everything from valve design and testing to actuators and leak-testing benches. Its multi-disciplinary team of engineers covers valve, product and machine design, structural simulation, fluid dynamics, stress analysis, kinetic simulation, electronic design and prototyping, with a hands-on customer-care policy across analysis, design and final deployment.
Steady business growth had outpaced the storage infrastructure. With the existing array overwhelmed, the company resorted to slow, unsafe external HDDs that offered no redundancy and no disaster recovery for sensitive project data whose loss would be very costly. Backups on the legacy appliance were slow and complex, and the extra external disks produced inconsistent copies that dragged whole projects down. Slow data access made opening, modifying and saving CAD files needlessly time-consuming, while disparate hardware multiplied management effort and pushed up total cost of ownership.
Constant business growth forced Cabra to save data on crude external drives once the existing storage was overwhelmed, raising serious concerns about the safety of sensitive project data with no redundancy.
With data and backups spread across older storage and multiple external drives, losing data was a considerable risk. The existing array could not replicate snapshots to a second machine, so data had no protected copy.
In a competitive market a fast project conclusion is essential. The existing infrastructure prevented the workflow performance the team needed, with engineers losing time simply opening, modifying and saving CAD files.
Cabra's IT was composed of many different hardware resources that constantly demanded attention. Time-consuming backups and hardware management were multiplied across the estate, driving up an unsustainable TCO.
With Syneto, Cabra deployed two 24TB Syneto ULTRA Series hybrid storage arrays to expand storage space, accelerate CAD work and build true disaster recovery. In-line data reduction stretches usable capacity further, an SSD cache layer speeds up file access, and automatic snapshots replicated to a second array protect the data. The whole server infrastructure was virtualised on the ULTRA Series, consolidating hardware and simplifying management.
A Syneto ULTRA Series array instantly added 24TB of storage. In-line compression, thin provisioning and deduplication push real usable capacity even higher, and a simple, intuitive interface made deployment and configuration fast.
Fast incremental snapshots can be scheduled automatically with almost no maintenance, and a second ULTRA Series array receives incremental replicated snapshots. Full Windows Previous Versions support lets engineers revert to any earlier version of their data.
The flash hybrid cache delivers up to 50% more speed by serving frequently used data faster. Reads and writes of hot CAD and VM data run in the caching layer, while colder data stays on regular HDDs to keep costs low.
All of Cabra's server infrastructure was virtualised on the ULTRA Series. Combined with SSD cache and backup and replication, this raised performance while reducing hardware, cutting management time and IT spend.
The Syneto ULTRA Series platform turned a fragile, slow environment into a fast, protected and consolidated one. CAD work accelerated, project data gained a multi-level safety net, and the consolidated, virtualised estate cut both management effort and IT spend — delivering immediate return on investment.
With CAD work accelerated, data protected by snapshots and replication, and servers consolidated, Cabra Engineering replaced a fragile, hard-to-manage environment with a scalable platform that supports its continued growth.
