An Italian manufacturer of premium awnings and pergolas replaced its NAS servers and third-party backup software with two HYPERSeries 3100 units, consolidating applications and file services while building disaster recovery directly into the infrastructure.
Founded in 1955 in Monza, Italy, BT Group designs and manufactures some of the finest awnings and pergolas in the world, combining genuine Italian craftsmanship with meticulous design and attention to detail. From a 25,000 sqm production facility and head office in Monza, the company employs around 150 people and generates a turnover of €20 million.
BT Group was searching for a solution to replace its traditional NAS servers and third-party backup software, which had become increasingly expensive and time-consuming to run and manage. With proprietary design and manufacturing data and applications forming the backbone of the business, the company needed backup and disaster recovery technology that was both highly secure and simple to operate.
The primary objective for BT Group's IT team was an infrastructure that could deliver virtual applications, file services and disaster recovery in the most cost-effective and easy-to-use manner. Because its proprietary engineering data is vital to keeping the business running, the application and data backup solution needed to work seamlessly 100% of the time.
Traditional NAS servers paired with third-party backup software had become increasingly expensive and time-consuming to run and manage.
Proprietary design and manufacturing data and applications form the backbone of the business and demand highly secure protection.
Design and manufacturing workstations were fragile, leaving critical engineering data exposed on vulnerable local machines.
Because engineering data is vital to keeping the business running, the application and data backup solution had to work seamlessly without interruption.
BT Group deployed two HYPERSeries 3100 all-in-one hyperconverged infrastructures with built-in disaster recovery capabilities. The new infrastructure consolidates all of the company's previously separate files and applications into a single solution that, once deployed, needs little to no attention from the IT team.
One of the main concerns for the BT Group team was the fragility of their design and manufacturing workstations. The HYPERSeries 3100 eliminates this vulnerability by virtualizing and centralizing all the workstation data on the Primary unit of the series. This data is then replicated to the dedicated Disaster Recovery unit for complete security and recoverability.
Virtual applications and file services that previously ran on separate NAS servers now live on a single hyperconverged platform, replacing both the legacy NAS and the third-party backup software.
Fragile design and manufacturing workstations are virtualized and centralized on the Primary unit, so critical engineering data no longer depends on vulnerable local machines.
Data on the Primary unit is replicated to a dedicated Disaster Recovery unit, delivering complete security and recoverability without separate backup tooling.
Once deployed, the consolidated infrastructure needs little to no attention from the IT team, freeing staff from the time-consuming management of the previous NAS and backup stack.
The two HYPERSeries 3100 enabled BT Group to consolidate all of its IT infrastructure and cut infrastructure costs in half, while the integrated disaster recovery reduced backup costs to zero. Application and file recovery now completes in 15 minutes, with a Recovery Point Objective of just 1 minute.
By consolidating applications, file services and disaster recovery into two HYPERSeries 3100 units, BT Group protects the proprietary data at the heart of its business while cutting both infrastructure and backup costs.
